Gianni Becatti of Italy, competing in Pool A in a 30-strong M55 long jump field on 9 September at the World Masters Athletics Track & Field Championships in Malaga, produced a consistent series of jumps clearing in excess of 6.20m reaching out to 6.50m on his final jump in perfect +0.0 conditions to erase the previous mark of 6.36m (+0.8), set back at the WMA Championships in Buffalo in 1995 by Finland’s Stig Bäcklund. Howard Lindsey, Antigua and Barbuda, won the silver medal with 6.12m and the Australian Luke de Biasi got the bronze jumping 6.03m. Becatti holds the M50 Indoor Record at 6.75m.

The Jamaican James Beckford won the M40 title with a 6.94m clearance on his third jump.

Sandra Cramer, Germany took the W40 title in 5.72m a 24-strong field.
