41 women from 27 countries have entered the W35 100m including the defending Champion Dedeh Erawati, who became the first Indonesian to win a Women’s sprint title at a WMA Championships as she sped to a 12.10sec qualifying time in the second of three heats in Perth in 2016, going on to take the final in 12.18 in a 3.4 wind from Carol Maud de Aldana of Guatamala 12.27sec, and the Australian Natasha Hughes.

Dedeh Erawati is now edging close to the next Age Category and is likely to be pushed hard to defend her title. She lists her time as 12.70sec on her entry, but a young lioness from Britain, Lucy Evans, who has a lifetime best time of 11.61sec, has recently run 12.20sec and a 25.23 time over 200m at the British Senior European Trials on 1 July.

Carol Maud de Aldana will also be in Malaga having run 12.50 in the South American Championships. Others likely to reach the final include Maria Alejandra Figueroa from Chile, she has a time of 12.46, Sinah Florence Hänssler-Hug from Germany, 12.56sec, Errolice Tjipura coming in from Namibia, clocked 12.50, Lorena Reyes Perez, Peru, 12.60sec and Inga McIntyre, Trinidad & Tobago, a hot bed of sprinting, could well improve on her 12.71sec.

The final is scheduled for 6th in Stadia C Malaga.
