Dear athletes,

The Coronavirus disrupted Masters’ athletics and many parts of our lives. The World Masters Athletics Championships in Toronto had to be cancelled and WMA Regions and Member countries cannot hold their championships. Additionally, most meetings are cancelled this year. The Masters’ athletes’ world was saddened, but had to accept that there is for the moment no face to face competition to allow meeting friends all over the world.

But masters’ athletes are creative in finding ways to connect and compete. A group of athletes, Gottfried Gassenbauer, Guy Dirkin and Andy Vince, thought of a great way to give athletes an opportunity to compete, promote international camaraderie and honour Toronto2020. You can take part in this special event, a virtual Track and Field meet (https://www.mastersrankings.com/2020-worldwide-virtual-masters-challenge/).

I wish this initiative great success. I encourage you to respect the rules and, of course, the measures of security, so that all competition is done under safe circumstances. And of course, stay honest, masters’ athletics is first of all fair play.

If we all respect that, the challenge will become a great success.

Thanks to all who create the idea and support the challenge. I hope to see you all back on the venue in 2021
