This Championship is a little more special than most. Masters Athletes participating in World Masters Championships are used to the camaraderie, competing with athletes over 70 and new to an event, Olympians and athletes who have set a multitude of WMA records. Nobody can recall ever having a current World Record holder participate. Mike Powell, M55, USA, competed in Barcelona ’92 and Atlanta ’96, in addition to setting the current World Record in an epic battle with Carl Lewis at the 1991 IAAF Championship. Mike greeted athletes at the Opening Ceremony plus has been taking in the competitions as well as talking to many of his fellow Masters Athletes.

20k Racewalk

A little rain can fall even a special event like this. A lot of a little rain didn’t stop 135 racewalkers from competing today in the 20k racewalk.
